The Friday Recs: Songs I Love

Moving away from my usual book related posts I decided to talk about music in today’s Friday Recs. This is a series where I recommend/talk about the things that I love. I don’t have a top 10 favourite list or anything but some of these songs are my all time favourites and I’m sure in the future there will be many more posts about song recommendations. They’re in no particular order and I’ll start the list off with:

1. Rabid Bits of Time by Chad VanGaaleen

I discovered this song a few months ago and I was instantly in love with it. I would continuously play it and before I went to sleep it was the last song I would listen to. It’s beautiful, I love the lyrics and his voice, just the overall feeling this song gives me.

2. HoppĂpolla by Sigur Rós

If happiness was music, it’d be this song. I first heard it in the movie Penelope and then I discovered Sigur Rós, I was blown away by how beautiful their music is. This is definitely an all time favourite, it’s such a feel good song and it always makes me feel better when I listen to it.

3. What Sarah Said by Death Cab For Cutie

For years, this song was the only song I listened to from Death Cab For Cutie and then I would download piano covers of this song. I’ve never gotten sick of it no matter how many times I overplayed it. The video gave me chills and to this day it’s still one of my favourites. It’s one of those songs that gives me peace for some reason.

4. Brighter Than Sunshine by Aqualung

Another song I’ve loved for years yet I’ve never really listened to other music from the band. This is just an incredibly sweet, adorable song that’s not over the top with it’s romance. I’ve never been in love but I like the way Brighter Than Sunshine describes it.

5. Mardy Bum by Arctic Monkeys

A lot of people know Arctic Monkeys but if you don’t, GO LISTEN TO THEIR MUSIC. I couldn’t decide which song to choose, there are so many songs I love from them. I love the albums Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and Favourite Worst Nightmare, one of their songs just had to be on my list.

6. Blue by BigBang

If you’ve never listen to Korean pop music then you probably have never heard this song but if you do then you know how amazing and popular BigBang is. They’re my favourite kpop group and from 2012, Blue is definitely one of my favourite songs. If you like music that makes you dance then check out Fantastic Baby, Tonight, you know what just look for their albums Big Bang and Big Bang 2.

7. Quelqu’un m’a dit by Carla Bruni

I heard this in the movie Amélie, it’s a song that relaxes me. I just love listening to her voice and it’s nice music while I’m painting or in need of some peace.

8. No Rest by Dry the River

I love the vocals but it’s the emotion it’s sung with that gives me chills everytime. When they start belting out “I loved you in the best way possible” it get’s to me, there’s this unexplainable feeling and I love when songs affect me like that.

9. The Sunset by The Bony King Of Nowhere

Again, this is another song I love to listen to while I’m painting or drawing. It’s so relaxing, whenever I’m frustrated this is the kind of music I listen to. It always calms me.

10. The Scientist by Coldplay

Whew! We’re almost at the end of my list so for my last song I chose my favourite song. A very popular song, The Scientist, is the only song I have loved for years and it still makes me feel so many different emotions at once. I love everything about this song, it can make me smile or cry or make me feel extremely appreciative of everything in my life. It’s a song that I feel has changed me in some small, immeasurable way each time I listen to it.

We’re at the end, I would be happy if you found a new song on here that you like and be sure to let me know what music you recommend. I’m always in the need for new songs to listen to!
