Goals

Bout of Books TBR

I’m trying to get through series on my shelves so this is my tentative TBR.
The Mark of Athena I am currently reading this, I’m in a rush to finish this because I’m really excited to read about Nico. I read some spoilers, they can be motivating sometimes.
The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson I was disappointed by the second book, in fact I can barely remember it but I still want to know how this series ends.
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness I think I had this on my TBR last readathon, its about time I pushed aside my dread and finish this series.

Updates

Day 1
My first day started off strongly, optimistic and satisfied with the progress I was making in The Mark of Athena I was sure I would complete my book by the end of the day. Then shitty things happened because life is an unpredictable asshole and this readathon has become a distraction from thinking.

Character Face Off

Ronan Lynch vs. James Carstairs

Ronan Lynch:
Who: Razor sharp raven boy from The Raven Cycle series.
Pros: Wild, adventurous, sarcastic
Cons: dangerous, rude, scary

James Carstairs:
Who: Shadowhunter from The Infernal Devices
Pros: Sweet, kind, loyal
Cons: Stubborn, self-sacrificing

Winner: James Carstairs.
I think I enjoy reading about Ronan a little more because he is so unpredictable and I love getting to know all those hidden traits but James wins my heart. He is gentle and lovely and ultimately I’ll feel way better around him. These boys have completely opposite personalities

Bookish Survey

This challenge is hosted by Writing My Own Fairytale.
1. How do you organize your shelves?
I recently reorganised my bookshelf, my tallest shelf has most of my series, my second short shelf has my TBR books arranged in a rainbow colour (only the first row) and my third shelf has a mix of my favourites and TBR. I know pictures would give the best visual but I’m a little lazy atm.
2. What is one of your favorite book that’s not in one of your favorite genres?
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, I adore this book though I don’t usually read historical fiction.
3. What is the last 5 star book you read?
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.
4. What book are you most excited to read during the read-a-thon?
Monsters of Men, I’m both terrified and ecstatic to get to the conclusion of this trilogy.
5. What book do you recommend the most?
The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta, it is my favourite series, I love all the characters and Melina Marchetta’s writing is perfection!

Do All the Things!!

Goals

Bout of Books TBR

I’m trying to get through series on my shelves so this is my tentative TBR. It might change depending on my mood.
Boundless by Cynthia Hand I am not a fan of this series, the second book was hella disappointing but I already own the 3rd book so I might as well see it through the end.
If I Stay by Gayle Forman There’s a movie and I love contemporary so I might as well get started on this.
The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson I’m currently reading it, it’s addictive so I might start the second book for the readathon.
Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness I am so excited for this one, the storyline is incredible.
Quintana of Charyn by Melina Marchetta Another one I’m really looking forward to, I read about 300 pages a few months ago but I’m still struggling to let this series go. I love it too much to finish it.

Updates

Day 1
Books Finished: 0
Currently Reading: The Girl of Fire and Thorns
Pages Read: 312
Twitter Chat: I didn’t participate because I got sidetracked with Korean Dramas. It’s like the 10th time I’m watching My Name is Kim Sam Soon. ^^:

Day 2
Books Finished: 0
Currently Reading: The Girl of Fire and Thorns
Pages Read: 0
:( I didn’t get any reading done today because I am at a friend’s house. It’ll be a tad bit rude if I just curled up in a corner with my book and ignored my friend. I tried to persuade her to join me in the readathon but we both got distracted with Teen Wolf. I’m very slowly, unsuccessfully working my way through by TBR.

Day 3
Books Finished: 1
Currently Reading: If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Pages Read: 111
I finally finished The Girl of Fire and Thorns. Great, fun read, I’m a bit indecisive as to what book I should read now.

Day 4
Books Finished: 1
Currently Reading: If I Stay by Gayle Forman and The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
Pages Read: 130
I was reading If I Stay but I wasn’t really in the mood for contemporary so I switched to fantasy. The Amulet of Samarkand is slow in pace but I’m loving the character’s voices.

Day 5
Books Finished: 1
Currently Reading: The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
Pages Read: 100
My progress is rather slow. While I like the narrative voices of The Amulet of Samarkand, the pace is progressing slowly and I’m getting bored and distracted while reading. I’m still in the mood for fantasy but I don’t want to be a book whore, starting up several books and then struggling to finish them or worse, abandoning any of my current reads. *sigh*

Day 6
Books Finished: 1
Currently Reading: The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
Pages Read: 90
Everytime I read a few pages of The Amulet of Samarkand, I keep falling asleep. It happened these past 3 days, it’s my drowsy drug, I knock right out when I read this book. I am not really enjoying it, the characters are annoying, the pace slow and I don’t care for the major turning events. This is one of those moments where purchasing the entire series did not work out in my favor.

Day 7
Books Finished: 2
Currently Reading: If I Stay by Gayle Forman
I finally finished The Amulet of Samarkand, I did not like that book at all. It was very tedious to read. I don’t think I’ll make it very far into If I Stay. =/

Wrap Up

Total Books Finished: 2
Total Number of Pages Read: 905
Girl of Fire and Thorns: 4 stars
The Amulet of Samarkand: 2 stars
Next time I need to make a better effort to connect with more readers and visit more blogs. I was such a lurker this year. =/

Bookish Battle Royal Challenge

This challenge is hosted by My Life in Books. For this challenge, 3 bookish characters must duel it out and a winner is choosen. My three characters are:
Sherlock Holmes:
Strengths:
1. Observant
2. Intelligent
3. Stealthy

Weakness:
1. Obsessive
2. Huge Ego
3. Likes to Show Off

Finnikin of the Rock
Strengths:
1. Physically Strong.
2. Stealthy
3. Experience with battle and wars

Weakness:
1. Pride
2. Loyal
3. Slightly Insecure

Marko from Saga
Strengths:
1. Vicious with a sword
2. Magic
3. Combat training

Weakness:
1. Made a vow not to kill
2. Family (he’ll do anything to protect them including giving up his life)
3. Careless at times

Outcome
Sherlock and Marko are a bit unpredictable. I think Marko may win this fight since he’s got magic and all the logic from Sherlock would be useless against spells and aliens. So Marko, with his spaceship, badass wife and sword has a pretty good chance of winning.

Retitle Your Current Read

This challenge is hosted by Oh Magic Hour.
I’m currently reading The Amulet of Samarkand.
Retitle 1.: Mischief and Hijinks Always Leads to Trouble.
Retitle 2: Revenge Results in Government’s Most Wanted.
Retitle 3: 12 Year Old Magicians Have Idiotic Plans When Their Pride is Hurt.
Retitle 4: Sass Will Save Your Ass.
I feel like I can come up with any number of ridiculous retitles for this book. πŸ˜›
